Your life in a seaside town has been peaceful but dull—until an infamous, wealthy samurai suitor approaches you one day and asks for your hand in marriage. As a wedding gift, he gives you a magnificent black pearl necklace. After your father dies of a sudden illness, distant relatives eagerly arrange the union, despite your misgivings.

When an impressive vessel, the Narukami Trade Ship, docks in the port on the morning of your wedding, you realize you have one chance to escape. You cut your hair, don male attire, and set sail in search of freedom and a new life...

However, little do you know that this "merchant vessel" is also flying false colors.
