I see what they are trying, But they are failing really hard. The algoritm that I liked and why I initially chose google play music, is completely gone. Now I just get pushed the popular playlists that i desperately want to avoid. Instead of creating an experience that is custom to me. I feel like I am paying for an app that has an agenda to push the artists that are important for the bigger record labels, instead of the artists that I might like. It does the same as youtube, more of the same, instead of trying to know what I actually want.

Truly mind-boggling that this is supposed to compete with Spotify and Apple Music. Slowest user interface BY FAR (just try scrolling a long playlist), god-awful recommendations, sketchy sound quality, and essentially no differentiating features. What the heck? Adding insult to injury, it's essentially unusable on Google TV and Android Auto -- can't play entire albums without crashing and when it doesn't crash it ignores your request and just starts playing random garbage from its awful recommendation engine.

Absolute pile of trash. As usual with Google they've decided to kill a perfectly good thing (GPM) and introduce a monstrosity for absolutely no reason. The UI is trash, integration of a personal library/uploads makes no sense, playlist sorting makes no sense, alphabetization of artists is dumb (how have we not learned that bands that start with "the" don't go to T), and the functioning on the new Chromecast is abysmal. There does not seem to be a way to search just music in YTM on the Chromecast, with search results including primarily live performances rather than populating search results with albums, singles, etc. Once again, this is an absolute pile of trash. After years of refusing to use Spotify because GPM was actually a good app, I'm immediately transitioning to Spotify.
