2016: Ingress is the missing link between going out and playing games. Especially if you don't use motorised vehicles when going out. Helps you maintain a good condition while having fun. It doesn't get better. Combine that with frequent updates, a deep back-story and interesting mechanics and you have yourself a winner. 2021: the above review is still relevant.

The new scanner with its animations looks slick and the one finger map control is a great plus. However, this version drains battery and overall runs less smooth than the original scanner. Selecting items (for recycling) or firing bursters takes a lot of time. and the blue hue on everything is annoying. The app contains bugs that will not be resolved anytime it seems. Overall this version pales in comparison to the older version.

The first ingress version was flawed, but despite this, it was the best mobile AR game out there. I had a fun 4 years with it. Met great people, traveled far and wide, helped fielding countries & continents. Thanks, Niantic! However, Prime is a UI disaster, a great showcase how NOT do mobile UI. Why didn't you listen to your experienced user base (the big fielders, the anomaly fanatics)? Prime sucks the joy right out of the game for me, and if it doesn't improve drastically, I shall quit . Pity.
