• No calling home
• No tracking or analytics
• No advertisements
• Actively developed and supported
• Android 5.1 and later supported
• IPv4/IPv6 TCP/UDP supported
• Tethering supported
• Optionally allow when screen on
• Optionally block when roaming
• Optionally block system applications
• Optionally notify when an application accesses the internet
• Optionally record network usage per application per address
• Material design theme with light and dark theme

PRO features:

• Log all outgoing traffic; search and filter access attempts; export PCAP files to analyze traffic
• Allow/block individual addresses per application
• New application notifications; configure NetGuard directly from the notification
• Display network speed graph in a status bar notification
• Select from five additional themes in both light and dark version

There is no other no-root firewall offering all these features.

If you like to test new features, you can participate in the test program: /apps/testing/eu.faircode.netguard

All required permissions are described here: https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard/blob/master/FAQ.md#user-content-faq42

NetGuard uses the Android VPNService to route traffic to itself, so it can be filtered on-device instead of on a server. Only one app can use this service at the same time, which is a limitation of Android.

This app works great to stop other apps from accessing the internet. However, a couple of months ago an issue arose. I think it started when my Nokia Android One was updated to 11. With the phone locked, i could not answer calls anymore on the full screen popup where you have to swipe up. After 1 or 2 rings it automatically hung up. With the screen on i still could answer calls on the panel sliding down from the top, with the 2 buttons. I tried everything, but only switching off NetGuard helps.

There is an option to allow connections while a phone call is going on, which you can use to workaround this Android issue.

Used it for years. Then I had to use a vpn, which is a bit of a nightmare - because Android limits to a single vpn (not a limitation by the app). At some point I apparently configured too strict rules: Samsung's update of Android didn't work anymore. I found that one difficult to repair (didn't contact support). So, powerful app, you can do a lot. But be careful, you can do too much as well. ;-)

Does what it should do. Haven't yet configured a custom .config but the the app works good. All the core functionality that you want is already available. Some nice to have features can be bough cheaper individually or together as premium pack for reasonable price. App also has nice links to services dnslookup. It also has quite customizable options so your limited to allow or block only. Battery drains maybe a little bit faster depending on the options you enable. Goodsoftwareispriceless
