About this app

KodiĀ® media center is an award-winning free and open source cross-platform software media player and entertainment hub for digital media for HTPCs (Home theater PCs). It uses a 10-foot user interface designed to be a media player for the living-room, using a remote control as the primary input device. Its graphical user interface (GUI) allows the user to easily browse and view videos, photos, podcasts, and music from a harddrive, optical disc, local network, and the internet using only a few buttons.

Estuary is the new standard skin and is designed to be fast and user friendly.
With the skin Estouchy, Kodi has now been enhanced to better work with larger 5" or up phones and tablets. Kodi is not designed or recommended for use with smaller phones.

Since 19.0 Matrix just 1 star. Why? Well I mainly use it to stream all my series, movies and documentaries from my NAS over NFS. Since 19.0 when playing 2160P LOTR any Extended version, after 1 - 1,5 hours into the movie the image begins to stutter regulary, audio keeps playing without stutters though. Very annoying. 18.9 Leia works flawlessly for me. Went back to this version. WTH does it go stutter in a new release?? Things should be improved instead of worsening them!!!

TLDR: Hostile Ux. Uses its own on screen keyboard, which is terrible, doesn't have an obvious paste option, and the config screens reset when you change app. Result is difficult SMB config. Once I got that working the menus to trigger a scan are hostile. Did that wrong, which broke app amd had to reinstall. Found the right way to do it, and the local metadata option just didn't work, the web metadata option runs serially so was slow. Glacial directory traversal, somehow worse than VLC.

Best app for videos on NAS. For some reason a lot of Android apps have trouble browsing and playing videos on NAS consistently in a friendly and easy way: smb (samba) being the protocol that's usually used (I've even tried NFS). Not this app. It allows me to browse, even has preview thumbnails for the videos AND it can even just play the next video automatically. If you have a NAS and Android/Android tv/Chromebook I use it on all 3 and it's the best.
