About this audiobook

Only one thing matters to Kai: getting the job done, and doing it better than anyone else. But when a beautiful thief crashes his security gig, claiming she's trying to protect the valuable artifact he's guarding, all his careful plans go up in flames. He doesn't believe a word she says-until the item is stolen right out from under them. Recovering the artifact before the real thief can unleash its ancient magic requires insider knowledge-information the mysterious trespasser possesses. Teaming up with a stranger isn't Kai's idea of smart, but he'll need all the help he can get to take on a notorious rogue and arcane power from the time of the gods.

3.5 stars — I’m not sure if it was the narrator, or the fact I made the insane decision to start listening to this while doing a puzzle (and maybe my concentration just can’t be split), but I found it a bit harder to get into this one…it just didn’t grab me as much. Which is not to say that I don’t enjoy Nelson Hobbs as a narrator — he has good voices, good pacing, and he’s consistent. And honestly, he fit with how I imagine Kai. It was just slightly flatter in tone. I’m not sure I got sucked in by the connection with Izzah either…which is not to say they didn’t have one, but there was a part of me that was always waiting for a shoe to drop or something. And I can’t help but wonder if she’s going to come back in the main stories, or if this was just a one off. Basically I had a hard time investing myself. I just read some other reviews, and it looks like she does make an appearance…so I wonder if I would have been better off reading it after I already met her. Might have enjoyed it more if that makes sense. The mystery of the Andromeda spell was super fun though, and I enjoyed the way it played out in the end!
