About this audiobook

A shot rang out. The Arabs surged forward under a savage fusillade of heavy fire. As they advanced, Geste rushed up and down his side of the roof, shooting constantly to trick the Arabs into believing the fort was heavily manned. They couldn’t be allowed to learn the grave truth—that of all those hard-bitten veterans who had yelled their defiance at the first Arab onslaught, who had shouted with joy at the order of ‘Aux Armes,’ only ten remained—ten legionnaires against a thousand Arabs.

Beau Geste is a world-famous novel of suspense and adventure, love and glory, courage and treachery. It is the thrilling story of three men who braved the hellish brutality and ruthless savagery of the French Foreign Legion to protect the honor of a woman they loved more than their lives.

An excellent period historical fiction about three English brothers who join the French Foreign Legion in the early 1900's. Fascinating descriptions, especially toward the end. The audiobook narration was simply outstanding. Almost more of a dramatization than narration. Really made me feel like I was there. BTW, worked perfectly on my Google Home too!

About the author

Percival Christopher Wren (1875–1941) was an English author of thirty-three novels and short stories of adventure fiction, mostly written about colonial soldiers in Africa. He is best know for Beau Geste, written in 1924 about the French Foreign Legion, which was adapted for the screen several times. He was born in Deptford, England. After graduating with an MA from Oxford, he traveled the world for five years before joining the British Cavalry. From there it is believed that he joined the French Foreign Legion, though he kept his membership secret. He worked for ten years in India for the Bombay government before retiring to England to concentrate on his literary career. The success of Beau Geste led to his publication of a series of Foreign Legion novels.

Geoffrey Howard (a.k.a. Ralph Cosham) (1936–2014) was a British journalist who changed careers to become a narrator and screen and stage actor. He performed in more than one hundred professional theatrical roles. His audiobook narrations were named “Audio Best of the Year” by Publishers Weekly, and he won seven AudioFile Earphones Awards, and in 2013 he won the coveted Audie Award for Best Mystery Narration for his reading of Louise Penny’s The Beautiful Mystery.
