About this audiobook

The compelling account of how two heritages united in their struggle to gain freedom and equality in America. The first paths to freedom taken by runaway slaves led to Native American villages. There, black men and women found acceptance and friendship among our country's original inhabitants. Though they seldom appear in textbooks and movies, the children of Native- and African-American marriages helped shape the early days of the fur trade, added a new dimension to frontier diplomacy, and made a daring contribution to the fight for American liberty. Since its original publication, William Loren Katz's Black Indians has remained the definitive work on a long, arduous quest for freedom and equality. This new edition includes updated information about a neglected chapter in American history.

Have not read but will do so. My Great Grandmother on my mother's side of the family was born Cherokee and her daughter married an African American. My grandmother always dressed with something on of Cherokee (Native American) heritage and kept her hair in the Native American appearance. My Great Grandmother on my father's side of the family was born African in the Ivory Coast and brought to America as a Slave. Elders on my father's side know the exact tribal name in Africa, of which escapes me now. I am going to really enjoy reading this book.

My Mom's Mother is Chiricahua/White Mountain Apache. She's also Irish from Dublin, Ireland. My Mom's Dad is a Spaniard and a 1/4 French. He was born in Mexico. His Family came from Barcelona, Madrid, and Saville Spain. My Dad's Father is Choctaw Indian, British, Asian, and African American, from Macon, Mississippi in a big White House on the Hill not far from the Choctaw Reservation. My Dad's Mom is Cherokee and Irish. She's from the upper part of Mississippi. I go through a lot because of the Color of my Skin, and my Heritage. So did and do the rest. But, it doesn't stop me from feeling the Pride I have about where I came from. At least, I Know Something!!!!!!!😊✊👍🇲🇽🇺🇸🇪🇦
