Tarum was born sick. Too sick to survive, but as an elephant he is a member of a speciec that needs every member so the vets attempt a proceedure that sshould make him stronger.

And it does, but as he begins to thrive it becomes clear to everyone that the genitc changes designed to save him have also made him something more than what he was before, and that is dangerous for him.
