About this audiobook

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance, Book Two of the Stormlight Archive, continues the immersive fantasy epic that The Way of Kings began.

Expected by his enemies to die the miserable death of a military slave, Kaladin survived to be given command of the royal bodyguards, a controversial first for a low-status "darkeyes." Now he must protect the king and Dalinar from every common peril as well as the distinctly uncommon threat of the Assassin, all while secretly struggling to master remarkable new powers that are somehow linked to his honorspren, Syl.

The Assassin, Szeth, is active again, murdering rulers all over the world of Roshar, using his baffling powers to thwart every bodyguard and elude all pursuers. Among his prime targets is Highprince Dalinar, widely considered the power behind the Alethi throne. His leading role in the war would seem reason enough, but the Assassin's master has much deeper motives.

Brilliant but troubled Shallan strives along a parallel path. Despite being broken in ways she refuses to acknowledge, she bears a terrible burden: to somehow prevent the return of the legendary Voidbringers and the civilization-ending Desolation that will follow. The secrets she needs can be found at the Shattered Plains, but just arriving there proves more difficult than she could have imagined.

Meanwhile, at the heart of the Shattered Plains, the Parshendi are making an epochal decision. Hard pressed by years of Alethi attacks, their numbers ever shrinking, they are convinced by their war leader, Eshonai, to risk everything on a desperate gamble with the very supernatural forces they once fled. The possible consequences for Parshendi and humans alike, indeed, for Roshar itself, are as dangerous as they are incalculable.

i use the stormlight archive books to sleep to. they're long, and involved. i listened to these for six months because there's enough interconnected plots and tidbits to keep them interesting. The narration is top notch from both Kate Reading and Michael Kramer. the series is a great dive into mental health and all sorts of sociopolitical issues, but through a fantasy lense which offers some comfortable distance. it can also be a little dark at times, so I sometimes skip the first book (owned on audible), and start with this book when I listen again. also, I have no problem with the side characters, most of them make sense in subsequent books.

I could reread and reread and reread and reread and reread this series thousands of times....and still never grow tired of them. This Series shines its best in audio form. It comes to life in so many ways with the telling that reading it simply isn't enough. it's an experience that leaves to breathless an gasping for more. You fall when the character dose you hurt when they hurt an you feel victorious when they succeed. If you truly want to escape into a new world this series will pull you through the pages again an again an again.....you'll never want to come back....I know I don't.

This is in no way a rating of this book. The book is amazing 5/5 stars. But I was so disappointed with this audio book after listening to The Way of Kings from graphic audio. This is a robotic voice reading to you. Graphic audio does a full blown production, sound effects, music, actors.. the reader adds excitement to the scenes using his voice inflection. Do not waste your money here.. even if it is cheaper.. I promise you search around and listen to graphic audio audiobooks.
