Margaret Watkins
An amusing and entertaining romance, I found the kidnapping of the unfortunate Lord Blaymire ingenious. Miss Persephone Patton has her own ideas regarding her future, but it would seem that the imperious Lord Blaymire has other ideas. When she refuses to answer his summonses to remove herself to London, he comes in person to haul her back to the city if necessary. However, Samuel discovers that if he thought his mother was an immovable force, Miss Patton is even more so. Waking up the morning after his arrival at Kyneton Tower, Samuel has difficulty working out how he came to be locked in a tower with only the barest of necessities. All Persephone has to do is to keep his lordship ensconced in the tower until her birthday, and then she is more than willing to send someone to free him. I did enjoy reading about these characters and the friendship that was built between them through a locked door, bringing about a change of perspective for both of them. Not to be outwitted, Lady Blaymire refuses to believe the hogwash delivered to her, and before they realize it, she too arrives on the scene looking for her errant son, bringing much consternation and upsetting all of Persephone's well-laid plans. Fortunately, the novel does come to a sweet conclusion and even Lady Blaymire is satisfied. I received a copy of this well-written and romantic novel through BookSprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.
