Waiting for the Sunrise is the volume one of the collected poems of Cathy Smith. This volume contains two Poetry-Photo Journals that span twenty years and many cross-country journeys through the USA, and into Canada and Mexico, as well. It is a poetic diary done in free verse and augmented with many full color digital photographs of favorite places the author has visited. Enjoy the simple language and see the world as she does with a poetic hand or eye that captures that special moment & freeze-frames it to share with you, the reader -- with a splash of Zen haiku.
Besides these award-winning poetry chapbooks, Cathy Smith is publishing a series of literary fiction short stories. The first book is Hidden Treasures and contains seven short stories about serendipity, magic, a bookstore cat, human cloning and social justice.
Seen as a 'Book of Days', Waiting for the Sunrise can be read one poem at a time like a calendar, a philosophical reminder of the soaring beauty that surrounds us from day to day. "Waiting for the Sunrise" is also available in paperback. Journey with the author in spirit through her words & images - see these poems through your eyes and mine ---
The author has been seeing things poetically since she was a baby. . . her curtains blowing in the sunlight over her crib. Time has only deepened her sense of place within nature. And a sense of place is something that everyone needs to have for themselves. Ms. Smith grew up next to a forest preserve in Illinois and now lives in front of a small forest in northern Maine next to the Canadian border. She studied other things in school, but found that writing is portable and immediate enough to compliment an impression of something that defines beauty.
