About this audiobook

Searching for his life’s purpose, young Daniel Deronda is immediately attracted to the beautiful but shallow Gwendolen Harleth during a chance meeting at a casino. As they pursue separate journeys of self-discovery, culminating in Daniel’s discovery of his Jewish heritage, Daniel and Gwendolen reveal much about the depth of their characters and the circumstances that have influenced their lives.

Although this book is well and clearly read it is infuriating that the reader has not bothered to find out the pronunciation not just of common words like filial (she keeps saying fil-eye-el) but English place names like Grosvenor (which she doesn't know is pronounced Growvner) ) and a common family name, Gascoigne, which she pronounces as if it were French. These are just a few examples of maddening mispronounced English words. Don't get me started on the foreign words but her howlers are more forgivable in this case. I love audio books but perhaps it's not a good Idea to have English Victorian novels read by American actors. Unless they do bit of research on pronunciations.
