What a great book. I can't comment on its historical accuracy (though I've seen nothing in it so far that contradicts anything else I've read), but it's beautifully written in a very engaging style and gives a real insight into the strengths, weaknesses and peculiarities of the marshals. It's particularly good on the relationships between the marshals which are particularly entertaining. You really don't need to be that interested in the marshals to get a great deal out of this book.

Having read around the edges of Napoleon’s life throughout my life I sought an accessible, enjoyable, and objective biography. Roberts seems to have delivered beautifully on all three objectives. I thoroughly enjoyed my learning experience, a comprehensive journey through the fascinating life of this brilliant, sometimes selfish and contradictory, but ultimately fascinating man. My thanks to Dennis Kelley for giving us this immense and immensely enjoyable work.

As a fan of the Napoleonic era I found this book a very enjoyable and informative read. If all is to be believed in this book, one wonders how Napoleon managed to conquer and rule most of Europe for as long as he did. He could only have been the genius that some said he was, with all the bickering and plotting his marshals were purportedly up to. Enjoyed the book immensely.
