The rain pelted against the windowpanes of the old Victorian mansion, casting eerie shadows on the walls. Inside, a group of friends gathered around a crackling fireplace, seeking refuge from the storm outside. Among them was Ruth, an adventurous thrill-seeker, who had organized a weekend getaway to the secluded estate known as Blackwood Manor.
As the night wore on, the group's laughter and chatter filled the air, temporarily masking the foreboding atmosphere that seemed to permeate the ancient walls of the mansion. But as the clock struck midnight, a sudden chill descended upon the room, silencing the jovial banter.
Ruth, ever the impulsive one, suggested they play a game to lift their spirits. "How about a séance?" she proposed, her eyes gleaming with excitement. "We can try to contact the spirits that are said to haunt this place."
The others exchanged nervous glances, but ultimately agreed, eager for a distraction from the oppressive darkness that seemed to press in from all sides. They gathered around a makeshift Ouija board, their fingers trembling as they placed them on the planchette.
"Is there anyone here with us?" Ruth asked, her voice barely above a whisper. The planchette remained still for a moment, then slowly began to move, spelling out a message: H-E-L-L-O.
