About this audiobook

The air was cold and damp as I trudged through the dense forest, my footsteps echoing loudly in the silent darkness. The eerie silence sent a shiver down my spine, making me feel like I was being watched by unseen eyes. I had decided to take a shortcut through the forest to reach my friend's house on the other side of town. It was a decision I would soon come to regret.

As I walked further into the thick undergrowth, the trees seemed to close in around me, their twisted shapes casting long, menacing shadows on the forest floor. The forest had always been a place of mystery and intrigue for me, but tonight it felt different. The usual sounds of nocturnal animals and rustling leaves were conspicuously absent, replaced by an oppressive silence that seemed to press in on me from all sides.

I checked my phone, hoping to use its GPS to guide me through the darkness, but to my dismay, I found no signal. The dense canopy overhead must have been blocking the satellite connection. I was truly on my own now, with nothing but my instincts to guide me through this labyrinth of trees and shadows.

My mind wandered to the stories I had heard about these woods. Local legends spoke of strange creatures that roamed the forest at night, of hikers who had gone missing without a trace, and of eerie lights that danced between the trees, luring unsuspecting travelers to their doom. I had always dismissed these tales as nothing more than campfire stories meant to scare children, but now, surrounded by the oppressive darkness of the forest, I found myself reconsidering my skepticism.

The path I was following began to narrow, forcing me to push through thick bushes and low-hanging branches. The leaves were wet with evening dew, and soon my clothes were damp and clinging uncomfortably to my skin. I shivered, partly from the cold and partly from the growing sense of unease that was settling in the pit of my stomach.

Suddenly, I heard a rustling noise coming from the bushes to my left. My heart skipped a beat as I froze in place, straining my ears to listen for any sign of movement. "Hello?" I called out nervously, hoping it was just a rabbit or squirrel. There was no response, only the sound of my own ragged breathing in the stillness of the night.

I took a hesitant step forward, my fear growing with each passing second. The rustling sound came again, louder this time, and accompanied by the snap of a twig. Whatever was in those bushes, it was no small animal. My imagination ran wild, conjuring images of monstrous creatures with razor-sharp claws and glowing eyes.

That's when I heard it a low, guttural growl that sent a chill down my spine. My blood ran cold as I turned to see a pair of glowing eyes staring back at me from the shadows. My heart raced as I tried to make out the shape of the creature looming before me. It was a wolf, its teeth bared in a menacing snarl as it took a step closer.

I stumbled backwards in terror, my mind racing with thoughts of how to escape this deadly predator. In that moment, I cursed myself for not paying more attention during those wilderness survival classes I had taken years ago. What was it they had said about encountering wild animals? Make yourself look big? Play dead? Or was that for bears?

"Please, don't hurt me," I pleaded, my voice trembling with fear. But the wolf only growled in response, its eyes fixed on me with a hunger that sent a shiver down my spine. I knew I had to think fast if I wanted to survive this encounter.

Time seemed to slow down as I assessed my surroundings, looking for anything that might help me fend off the wolf. My eyes fell on a thick branch lying on the ground a few feet away. If I could reach it, maybe I could use it as a weapon to defend myself.
