About this audiobook

I've said it before, but sometimes I'm a bad person. I cheated on my twelfth grade math final, I've run countless yellow lights, and I gossip about how hot my kickass best friends are. (Good thing my job as a guild bartender doesn't require moral perfection.) But there's bad, and then there's bad. And I'm not sure which applies to a certain dark druid/wanted criminal/reluctant friend of mine. His transgressions include black-magic dealings, kidnapping, and murder, and he's about to add "revenge-fueled killing spree" to his resume-if I don't stop him. Should I stop him? He and his nemesis are gearing up to tear each other apart, rogues and vultures are converging with their sights on the spoils, and the guilds that would normally stomp them into the ground are under attack. We're on the verge of an all-out criminal turf war, and my time to decide is almost up. Who's the real bad guy . . . and do I dare stand in his way? Make sure to check out the companion series, The Guild Codex: Demonized, available now, and The Guild Codex: Warped, coauthored by Rob Jacobsen, available summer 2020.

4.5 stars — Am I the only one that bawled during multiple sections of this book? I doubt it. This one was emotional in so many ways. The problem is that I’m super invested in Tori and all of her friends, and so the wrenches just hurt more and more as they’re thrown in. And I wasn’t anticipating a few of them, so they threw me for a loop. I’d say which ones, but it might be kind of spoilery. Tori just feels ALL of the emotions, and I’m right there with her. I love her sass, but it’s also her heart that has her forever being a fave heroine. She just sees all of her friends, wants the best for them, and puts her all into helping them in any way. It was hard to watch the bits of disillusionment that happened here and there…especially because the situations were complicated. The action in this book was super crazy and tense and OMG. I didn’t think I was going to survive the climax. I loved the advancements in 2 of the mages storylines. I was surprised that we didn’t get further (farther?) on one very important storyline, but I got something else instead and I loved it. Course, I also got a heap of heartbreak and anxiety, so you know…balance. And can I just say that while I love so many of the secondary characters (especially the guild), I adore the little moments with Hoshi and Twiggy. So yeah. I find it super hard to write reviews for later books in a series, but just know I am still absolutely enthralled, and I don’t know if I’m going to survive these last few books. I can also see rereading these books over and over, so I’m going to need to get my own copies…and definitely of the audiobooks, b/c Cris Dukehart is da bomb.
