About this audiobook

She's a thief with forbidden magic. He's the guy she just stole from. Now they'll have to work together.

In a city where magic is outlawed, teenage thief Ridley uses her special powers to steal from the rich and give to those in need—until the night someone follows her home after a heist and ends up murdered outside her apartment.

When her best friend is accused of the crime, Ridley is determined to prove his innocence.

But things get messy when the artifact Ridley stole turns out to contain secrets that could endanger many lives. Forced to team up with wealthy Archer—the guy she stole from—Ridley must hunt down the artifact before it winds up in deadly hands.

Which means following a trail into the hidden parts of the city ...

... and hopefully not winding up dead.

3.5☆Magical and science fiction, political intrigue & deceptions, shadow government, underdog, YA-teen, suspense, speculative fiction, dystopian, mystery, Episodic series, audiobook. I'm not usually a fan of dystopian stories. I find them way too dark and depressing, but this one also skews toward possible superheros. The author seems to strive for balance between dark or heavy and brighter scenes so as to not constantly weigh readers down, thanks. It is also not as grungy as others I have tried to read, but leans more toward Robinhood-y, spy vs spy action. Yes, the main heroine lives in a modest part of town, but it is not described as slum-like even though there is still quite a large gap between the 1% types and Riddly's family. This is more a story of struggle for control over others by those insatiable for power from fear or other inadequates vs the common man types who just want to be autonomous with an agreeable quality of life. Will continue series as book budget allows.

The ebook is brilliant, I've read it a while back. I was going on a long journey and thought I'd try listening to a book as reading a book whilst travelling made me feel nausea. I was so disappointed, as the voice is awful. It sounds robotic, like my satnav is reading the book. I got to chapter 2 but couldn't listen anymore. The book itself is great, but not feeling the voice.

super slow getting started. Picked up pretty good around chapter 28 a little too late.
