AN UNEXPECTED QUEST. TWO WORLDS AT STAKE. ARE YOU READY?

Days after winning OASIS founder James Halliday's contest, Wade Watts makes a discovery that changes everything.

Hidden within Halliday's vaults, waiting for his heir to find it, lies a technological advancement that will once again change the world and make the OASIS a thousand times more wondrous - and addictive - than even Wade dreamed possible.

With it comes a new riddle, and a new quest: a last Easter egg from Halliday, hinting at a mysterious prize.

And an unexpected, impossibly powerful, and dangerous new rival awaits, one who'll kill millions to get what he wants.

Wade's life and the future of the OASIS are again at stake, but this time the fate of humanity also hangs in the balance.

Lovingly nostalgic and wildly original as only Ernest Cline could conceive it, Ready Player Two takes us on another imaginative, fun, action-packed adventure through his beloved virtual universe, and jolts us thrillingly into the future once again.

I loved the first book and the movie, but this was not even on the same level. The first half of the book dragged with details editors would've scrapped way before the final result. I pursued and tried, I really did, but the book felt heavy with boredom when I tried to pick it up again. I even finished the entire first book again, but still, I just can't with this book. If I may interject, a book of seven very different stories, each characterising the seven deadly sins of the Oasis and how the effects impact irl too. It's a shame when the fanfics get more enjoyable than the cannon.

At the same time, this is a replica of Ready Player One and yet loses some narrative points that made the first so special. Cline has interesting ideas but the second book starts exactly when the first stops and goes too easy and/or too far with concepts too sci-fi even for the future setting. In spite of everything I enjoyed the audiobook and once again I liked very much listening to Wil Wheaton. FYI: English is not my first language.

Warning: Spoilers.. Overly LGBTQI when it didn't need to be. It seems like the author was really trying hard to make a point. Who cares if the characters are gay/LGBTQI - why does this need to be overly expressed? The section about Prince was really long-winded and dragged on... surely we could have had Pet Shop Boys or David Bowie instead? It seemed like each shard was aimed at different characters. It would have been good to have had more of the Low-Five team explored. I would have rated it higher if the Deus ex-machina of Artemis saving the day didn't happen when in the LOTR universe. The voice narration was really good. Wesley Crusher did a great job!
