Auf mehr als hundert handschriftlichen Seiten analysiert Kafka das Verhältnis zu seinem schier übermächtigen Vater. Der erst 1952 veröffentlichte Brief ist eine durch schonungslose Selbstanalyse erwirkte Anklageschrift gegen das Starke, das Heroische, welches in furchtloser Manier den Furchtsamen erdrückt.
