About this audiobook

Crime and Punishment tells the story of Rodion Raskolnikov, an ex-student who plans to murder a pawnbroker to test his theory of personality. Having accomplished the deed, Raskolnikov struggles with mental anguish while trying to both avoid the consequences and hide his guilt from his friends and family.

Dostoevsky’s original idea for the novel centered on the Marmeladov family and the impact of alcoholism in Russia, but inspired by a double murder in France he decided to rework it around the new character of Raskolnikov. The novel was first serialized in The Russian Messenger over the course of 1866, where it was an instant success. It was published in a single volume in 1867. Presented here is Constance Garnett’s 1914 translation.

This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Extremely choppy! You can tell Google made this and not a real person by the monotone narration, mistakes a real reader wouldn't make, and all the choppiness at the beginning of each sentence. They should add this narrator voice to play books. Charging for this is absolutely ridiculous!

The narration is the most monotonous I've ever heard. The fact that this is free does not give me any solace and tolerance to be able to bear it for 20 hours, so I went ahead and purchased another version, which sounds better.

I'm just now, slow in my realization, of a vastly numerous hoard of materials getting billed to my credit card, queued-up for my listening, that decides to not even play should a missed payment occur on accounts even lapsing a day. An Audiobook services tries not to emphasize that the entire library of downloaded material only runs on one application whenever the monthly fees stay currently paid, regardless of the amount we already threw down on these documents. They're not usually retained.
