About this audiobook

A tale of dark secrets, deep love, and dangerous magic!

Since childhood, Sabriel has lived outside the walls of the Old Kingdom, away from the random power of Free Magic, and away from the Dead who refuse to stay dead. But now her father, the Charter-Mage Abhorsen, is missing, and to find him Sabriel must cross back into that world. With Mogget, whose feline form hides a powerful, perhaps malevolent spirit, and Touchstone, a young Charter Mage, Sabriel travels deep into the Old Kingdom. There she confronts an evil that threatens much more than her life--and comes face-to-face with her own hidden destiny.

I had a best friend in high school named Starr. Starr was brilliant, and she loved to read. She read through piles and stacks of books, voraciously. Her witty jokes and charm could win over any person she came across. She went off to school to be a professor of literature. But Starr died. The Old Kingdom series were her favorite. I was fortunate enough that she shared this books series with me as well. Garth Nix is a master of high fantasy, and now these books are my favorite series, bar none. He created such a well-thought out system of magic that feels complete; one the plot is integrally connected with, and characters are impacted by. What I wouldn't give to be a part of bringing this story to the silver screen! But Tim Curry's narration is a fantastic substitute. His impersonation of Mogget is one of my favorite of his roles ever. Today I get to share this story with my child, who I named in remembrance of my friend. And Sabriel is just as wonderful a read as ever.

I was in my mid-30's when I picked up SABRIEL at my local library. I loved this book so much that I purchased it along with LIRAEL and THE ABHORSEN. These three books led me to reading and collecting other works by Garth Nix. He writes well for children of all ages.

Good narration. clear differences between character voices. good story. I Only replayed them a few times before I got bored. that's better than some books that I never was able to listen to again.
