“So what do you suggest?”
“I would refer you to another doctor to assess your case so that –”
“But I don’t want another doctor, young man. Can’t you see that?”
“I am sorry. Can’t I see what?”
“I must see Doctor Annabelle.”
“You mean you must be seen by Doctor Annabelle.”
“Yes. She has to be the one to see me.”
“I can understand how much you want her to see you. But I just –”
“Okay, okay, I get it. You want something before you can refer me to her, don’t you?”
The man frowned at him. “I don’t understand you, sir.”
Bruce smiled. He then dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out a few dollar bills. He folded them and dropped on the desk in front of the man. He then lowered his voice. “Have that for lunch, young man. Now please can you arrange for me to see Doctor Annabelle?”
The man glanced around furtively as he counted the money. “Five hundred dollars?”
Bruce nodded. “Yes. And it is for you.”
The young man licked his lips as he quickly pocketed the money. “Sir, if you really need any medical attention, I can arrange for you to see the best doctor currently available.”
“And I have told you over and over again that I am not interested in seeing anyone else. It has to be Doctor Annabelle. Can’t you fix something for me? I don’t mind waiting.”
The young man nodded. He leaned closer and lowered his voice. “Okay. I would do something for you. Doctor Annabelle is going to be here for a brief break in an hour’s time.”
“An hour from now?”
“Yes. She would just come in to check up on some documents that arrived for her. She is not going to stay to work or anything like that.”
“Are you sure about that?”
