ABOUT THE BOOK:
Original publication: 1915
Jack London originally published this novel in the U.S. under the title “THE STAR ROVER”. He published the same book in the U.K. under the title “THE JACKET”. In this novel, London tells the story of Darrell Standing, a university professor serving life imprisonment in San Quentin State Prison for murder. Prison officials try to break his spirit by means of a torture device called "the jacket," a canvas jacket which can be tightly laced so as to compress the whole body, inducing chest pain. Standing discovers how to withstand the torture by entering a kind of trance state, in which he walks among the stars and experiences portions of past lives.
This book is great for schools, teachers and students or for the casual reader, and makes a wonderful addition to any classic literary library
