Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir

Let's pretend this book never happened... The stories the author shares from her life are compelling, and I'm truly glad she wants to put them out there. However, her annoyingly repetitive jokes completely derail all enjoyment and respect for the book itself. Every other superfluous sentence is ended with "just kidding", "actually I made that up", or "that's a complete lie". After just the first few chapters, I wanted to strangle both her and her enabling editor. I expected this kind of humor would be present after the "mostly true memoir" subtitle, but it was utterly beaten to death. I think she would do well to take a few notes from Jeanette Walls on how to more successfully incorporate humor into an otherwise tragic memoir. And for the love of god, hire a real editor who will actually screen for readability!

I was very disappointed, especially because there are so many good reviews, and I normally am not a difficult person. The humour is shallow, vulgar and repetitive and I couldn't even listen to the end.

Threw it in the trash where it belonged I bought the hard copy and actually thumbed through it before purchasing it. I could not believe her vulger mouth and trashy way of speaking. Good writers and comedians do not have to be nasty and vulger. It's obviously her lack of words that hinder her writing. I would not even give it away or sell it. I honestly threw it in the trash. Which is what it was for me
