About the author

Polish-born Joseph Conrad is regarded as a highly influential author, and his works are seen as a precursor to modernist literature. His often tragic insight into the human condition in novels such as Heart of Darkness and The Secret Agent is unrivalled by his contemporaries.

D.H. Lawrence (1885-1930) is regarded as one of the most influential writers of the 20th century. He published many novels and poetry volumes during his lifetime, including Sons and Lovers and Women in Love, but is best known for his infamousLady Chatterley's Lover.

Montague Rhodes James (1862-1936) was an English author, medievalist scholar, and provost of King's College, Cambridge, and Eton College. He was also Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge from 1913–1915.
