Mayelana nale audiobook

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to attend an all-girls boarding school? How about a boarding school in the early 1900s? Join Patty and her friends in their shenanigans in this classic Jean Webster tale and prequel to When Patty Went to College.

Producer’s note: This audiobook was read from the original text, which was a product of it’s time. When the book was written, it was common in American society to caricature certain ethnic groups for the sake of humor. This type of humor was wrong then and is wrong now, but to remove these inexcusable jokes and harmful portrayals would be equal to pretending that they never existed. Instead, we chose to leave the text in as written, in order to shed some light on the issue, allowing for discussions in book groups and school settings, and hopefully inspire future generations to write with more accurate representation in the future.

Jean Webster is the pseudonym of American writer Alice Jane Chandler Webster (1876–1916). She is best known for her epistolary novel Daddy-Long-Legs, and her other works include Dear Enemy, When Patty Went to College, Jerry Junior, and Just Patty, several of which were adapted for the stage. Born in Fredonia, New York, she attended Vassar College, where she majored in English and economics. Her writing, characterized by lively and likable heroines, engaging dialogue, and clever humor, often addresses themes of women’s education and suffrage and social reform.

Rebecca H. Lee grew up in Washington State, where she graduated from the University of Washington with a double degree in Drama and Music. She has spent much of her adult life traveling abroad and working as a performer in resorts, theme parks, and cruise ships, but now stays mainly at home in Seattle with her loved ones, narrating audiobooks and performing improv and scripted theater on stage.
