About this audiobook

A young nurse’s body is found at Clovelly Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. Apart from a puncture wound in her neck, she is in perfect condition. But she’s also clutching a rose in her hands – and there’s an empty packet of prescription drugs in her pocket. Investigating the scene, Detective Lexie Rogers and her partner Brad Sommers know something is not right. It appears to be a staged suicide. And as they begin to dig deeper, Lexie discovers the case is too close to home. The dead girl was a work colleague of Lexie’s ex-husband, who is now a paramedic – and she was also a friend of the woman who broke up Lexie’s marriage. Struggling as she is with her breakup with Josh Harrison, who pushed her away after the suicide of his sister, and the numbing flashbacks of the violent attacks she’s suffered in the past, Lexie throws herself into the case. When she’s handed the lead on the investigation, Lexie sets out to solve the murder and prove she’s up to the job. When Lexie’s ex-husband becomes a suspect, she refuses to believe it. It also becomes startlingly clear there are similarities in the deaths of Josh’s sister and the murder victim. But when Lexie determines a link between the women and a doctor working at the same hospital, he becomes her main suspect, fuelled by her discovery of a prescription drug racket. Just when Lexie is beginning to make headway on the case, Josh turns up. He’s determined to find out what happened to his sister – and he also wants Lexie back. Piecing together the identity of the killer with the help of her old bikie friend, Rex Donaldson, Lexie and her colleagues set a trap in an ambitious police operation. But there’s a big difference between naming a suspect and catching a killer ...

About the author

Karen was born and raised in Sydney. When she was young she was a keen ice skater, horse rider and was ranked in the state in tennis. From the age of fifteen she worked casually at Woolworth’s, coached tennis on weekends and dabbled in a bit of part time modelling. After completing her higher school certificate she worked for twelve months as a clerical temp in variety of office jobs to fill in time until she was old enough to apply for the New South Wales Police Force. After twenty years as a police officer, Karen decided to put pen to paper and write about her experiences. Not having written anything other than police reports for years, Karen was unsure where to start. Though as soon as she sat down in front of her computer and started to relay her stories, she found the word’s flowed easily, and soon, her memories grew into a collection of events; a chronological record of her time as a police officer. During the process of documenting some of the significant incidents that had etched themselves into Karen’s memory, a strange thing happened. She discovered that just like her mother, she loved to write. Her mother’s agent, Selwa Anthony, encouraged Karen to turn her experiences into fiction and write about what she knew; crime. Having not the slightest clue how to do this Karen did a short creative writing course. Then she studied, analysed and pulled apart numerous crime books to see how it was done. She read “How to write fiction for dummies,” and a number of other ‘Learn to write books.’ Karen’s first attempt at a manuscript was, “all over the place,” and will be buried in the archives of her computer forever. Her second manuscript ‘'SINISTER INTENT’ took two years to write, then another two years of editing and rewriting before it was ready to be presented to publishers. In July 2012 Simon & Schuster offered Karen a two book publishing deal. In August 2013 her first crime novel “SINISTER INTENT,” was released. Karen lives in Sydney with her husband, a senior serving member of the NSW Police Force, her two teenage daughters, three dogs and one cat. She also has two teenage step-daughters. Yes the house can be very busy at times. When not writing, which is not often these days, Karen loves to walk, ride her Suzuki intruder motor bike, socialise and read. She is currently working madly on book number two, (starring Lexie Rogers) due out next year.

Kate Hosking is an Australian performer who has been narrating audiobooks for over 20 years. Her titles range from teenage fiction to adult non-fiction and everything in between. She is a musician, theatre performer and educator.
