Successful entrepreneur and race car driver Carlos Vieira was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the youngest of three siblings. When he was a young child, his working-class parents immigrated to California, where they thrived as sweet potato farmers in the town of Livingston and provided their children with solid values and a strong work ethic. As a teenager, Carlos is popular and athletic, all set to join the family farming business, but when he yields to the allure of recreational drug use, his dreams and goals fade into the back- ground. There follows a series of unexpected challenges that land him in serious jeopardy.
In this cautionary tale, we see how the isolation of addiction affects every aspect of Carlos's existence. Although he attempts a conventional path, the dark side continually dominates as he slowly spirals down, pursuing the party lifestyle for more than a decade.

American businessman and philanthropist Carlos Vieira is the vice president of A.V. Thomas Produce, the largest producer of organic and conventional sweet potatoes in the United States, established by his great- uncle in 1960. He is also the founder of the Carlos Vieira Foundation, which sponsors three initiatives--the Race for Autism, the Race 2B Drug Free, and the Race to End the Stigma-- dedicated to raising awareness of autism, addiction, and mental illness. Vieira, born in 1972, is also a competitive race car driver and the owner of the number 51 car, competing in various race series throughout the West Coast. He is the creator and CEO of the lifestyle brand 51FIFTY, which is about believing in yourself, exploring who you are, and discovering who you want to be in order to live life to its fullest. Vieira is the recipient of the Portuguese Education Foundation Businessman of the Year Award and the Portuguese Fraternal Society of America Portuguese Community Service Award. The father of two daughters, Vieira lives with his wife, Aysia in Atwater, California.
