About this audiobook

When a rock star is marked for murder, he demands a bodyguard.

After a decade in the Marine Corps, Kade thought he’d be ready for anything. Assigned to guard Ollie’s ex-boyfriend and rock star, Jacob, is a test of his willpower. Minor threats and blackmail turn quickly to murder and extortion when money is on the line.

Jacob wants to hang up his career, or at least the family controlling his life, but the death of his assistant unearths a long list of secrets, lies, and long-term abuse. Kade is determined to not let Jacob back into their lives, but realizes the safest place to hide him from a would-be killer is in their own house. An opportunity Jacob sees as a chance to get back into Ollie’s good graces.

Can Kade find and stop the killer before he is forced to put Jacob out of all of their misery?

Note This MM romance features a tattooed ex-Marine, a former model with a passion for manties and sticking his nose into mysteries, a snarky, emotionally damaged rock star, a cat known for defying gravity, and too many murders to count. Second Edition. This series is best read in order.

I am starting to see a theme in this series. Societal perceptions, family, and long term consequences are all 'not good'. Ollie's ex-boyfriend, Jacob, shows up to prove just how awful those things are. The story kept me engaged. I was listening way past my bedtime. I even folded extra laundry just to have an excuse to keep listening. I also like the Brian Hutchinson as narrator for this book. His voice was a bit more appealing to me than the previous narrator. This book focuses more on Kade so the narrator change made sense. I am not sure that I liked how BDSM was portrayed in this book. Since the portrayal was more about the person participating than BDSM itself, I might just be angry with the character. Manipulating people is not the same as gaining consent. Just no. See I am angry. The author did a great job of inciting emotions. A really great job. Like the first book, the plot has a few layers. The resolution wasn't entirely surprising, but the conclusion was. If I hadn't already downloaded the third audiobook in this series, I would not have been happy with the end. Jacob's story was resolved, but that wasn't the end of the story because this series still has an overreaching plot arc that I suspect won't be wrapped up until the end of the series. Sneaky authors. So sneaky and evil.

I knew that guy was the bad guy. But I did not see that ending coming. Darn!
