I was ecstatic about this book and could hardly wait to dig right in. Unfortunately I couldn't make it past the first 10-15 minutes. The preface goes on to mention how the author wants this story to be a distraction from the "real world". Then, he has the main character repeatedly complain about or reference the pandemic/proper mask usage on 3 separate occasions by my count. Talk about irony! Normally an opinionated character does little to bother me but it felt like virtue signalling.
