The pirate stuff was okay, and the historical details were nice, but I really liked the kraken. narrator did a great fop voice for the garrison commander. it's a fun book, but I was expecting more from the author. for the price it was a great deal, but don't buy unless you have already read: Sphere, Rising Sun, Eaters of the Dead, Jurassic Park, Prey, and the Andromeda Strain. Unless you are looking for a really cheap audiobook above all. I just mean that bargain-price aside, all of the above books are much better than this one. I also think it's funny that the USA Today review managed to get the name wrong, and the San Francisco chronicle review absurdly called it "Crichton's best adventure". Don't fall for the Google Store's reviews that appear in the description under "About This Book". That's where they quoted the Chronicle calling it Crichton's best adventure. it's good, but it's light-years from his best. I'm just saying. for $4.99, it's a great deal. but not a great book.
