The early 1930's were desperate times in America. As the country struggled through the Great Depression, many of its finest young men, unable to find work, turned to begging or stealing to get by. But others began to roam the country, searching for their dreams. Many stories are told about the plight of these young men, but none as touching as the story of Charles "Mittens" Perkins, who traveled to the Boundary Waters Wilderness of Northern Minnesota in 1931, searching for his dream.
