Meet the aristocratic Lamprey family: Charming, vaguely kind, and usually on the brink of bankruptcy. Uncle Gabriel, holding the ancient title, responds to yet another plea for money by reluctantly leaving the family seat and going to London to read his mild and ineffectual younger brother a stiff lecture. The inevitable shouting match between the brothers triggers a series of events which spiral into murder.
