Opiate Epidemic: The Essential Guide to Beating Drug Addiction, Learn the Necessary Tools and Effective Strategies to Overcome Your Addiction For Good
Opioids are narcotic, painkilling drugs produced from opium or made synthetically. Sometimes called the "opioid epidemic," addiction to opioid prescription pain medications has reached an alarming rate across the United States. Some people who've been using opioids over a long period of time may need physician-prescribed temporary or long-term drug substitution during treatment.
Drug addiction, also called substance use disorder, is a disease that affects a person's brain and behavior and leads to an inability to control the use of a legal or illegal drug or medication. Results from NIDA-funded research have shown that prevention programs involving families, schools, communities, and the media are effective for preventing or reducing drug use and addiction.

Incredible book - an astonishing, candid, raw, funny tale of Amy Dresner. A powerful auto-biographical ride through the storm of life with moving and painful insights into the mind of an addict. The rehab, 12-Step, recovery and halfway house stories are gems - bitchy and brusque to counterpoint how low a human can go. Jeez she had it tough (a fair whack of her own making) but this has helped give me a (helpful) perspective on my own world. But it's no manual. it's a warning and a memoir in one. I've read drug autobiogs before - they can be clunky. Not this. Like Mishka Shubaly, it's racy and easy, crafted with a writer's wit and pace. Warning: Dresner does not let up the dirty details. And, for that, it's an awesome read.
