About this audiobook

First published in Portuguese in 1968, Pedagogy of the Oppressed was translated and published in English in 1970. Paulo Freire's work has helped to empower countless people throughout the world and has taken on special urgency in the United States and Western Europe, where the creation of a permanent underclass among the underprivileged and minorities in cities and urban centers is ongoing. This 50th anniversary edition includes an updated introduction by Donaldo Macedo, a new afterword by Ira Shor, and interviews with Marina Aparicio Barberán, Noam Chomsky, Ramon Flecha, Gustavo Fischman, Ronald David Glass, Valerie Kinloch, Peter Mayo, Peter McLaren, and Margo Okazawa-Rey to inspire a new generation of educators, students, and general audiences for years to come.

someone asked me to read this to talk about, and i think it is important to be open to learning things through real people who are around us rather than just computer-generated suggestions, so i listened to it. unfortunately, Paulo seems to have chosen to become bitter and is now desperately confused by his experiences, rather than dealing with reality productively. it also seems like he's starting a new branch to the relatively new and popular religion of marxist humanism. very dry, and loaded with buzzwords, and attempts to redefine and create new buzzwords. yes i realize this is book is very popular in academia at the moment. particularly in education circles. i am a qualified canadian teacher, and i worked as a special needs worker in canadian schools for over 10 years. i resigned to do course development in others areas on Good terms with an open letter of invitation to be hired back to canadian public education at any time.

Fantastically wonderful book. I was first introduced to this book while studying to become a trained teacher at Sam Sharpe Teachers' College, Jamaica 🇯🇲. However, I didn't get the profound essence of the book's value until after my graduation and teaching practice in the classroom. After migrating and attending University abroad, I made sure I searched for and purchased my own copy which I utilized occasionally to this day. It's indeed a great book addition to any scholarly library ANYWHERE!!
