About this audiobook

Author Robert L. Leahy presents a systematic, accessible self-help guide to gaining control over debilitating anxiety from relationships, health, money and work. Leahy is an expert in changing thought processes, and he walks worriers step-by-step through problems in the way they think, with pointers on how to change these biases. For self-assessment, he provides several questionnaires to take your worry profile, including estimations of your, personal beliefs on self and relationships, and your ability to tolerate uncertainty. The author then outlines a seven-step worry-reduction plan: beginning with identifying productive and unproductive worry, progressing to improving skills for accepting reality, challenging worried thinking and learning to harness unpleasant emotions such as fear or anger.

I find the book helpful for the most part but there is some bad advice as well. For instance, the story is given of an employee worried about losing her job. The suggestion given is to flatter her boss. This is plain bad advice. Flattery will not go far in most production-based employment. The author may have never worked in such an environment. I have been working in sales most of my life and yes, I worry. I have done well. My strategy has always been to understand what the boss wants/needs and to give it. In my case, that means numbers. And I always strove to have the boss see me as indispensable. And I constantly talked to the boss and let them know what was going on.

Robert leahy changed my life !! this playbook and the regular one changed me, I have GAD it took me 2 3 years to really really understand the whole book, but right from the start it made a huge difference and after that it, the book made sense and I'm almost healed now, also if you have tension I highly highly reccomend the progressive muscles relaxation technique in his book anxiety free, if you have mental disorder see it as a gift to really get to know yourself.
