關於這本有聲書

An execution-style murder sends a message.

Old cases haunt Maui’s detectives.

An external force threatens Pele’s island home.

Now partners, Maui PD Detective Sergeants Keone Boyd and Angela Beyers investigate the brutal murder of a local drug pusher. The body is found across the street from Maui PD headquarters, with its tongue cut out and its lips sewn together. For Keone and Angela, the murder stirs echoes of their former cases.

In the midst of the investigation, Keone is summoned by his elderly grandmother. In her visions, Pele, the most powerful of the Hawaiian gods, wakes from her slumber to confront an ancient evil that threatens their beautiful island home—an evil Keone has faced before, thousands of miles away, and failed to destroy. Can this be related to the murder? What are the visions trying to tell him?

This time Keone has no choice. Either he ends this evil, or the evil ends him—and everyone he loves. This lovely and vital island continuously reminds Keone that their souls are inextricably linked to the source of their very existence in the bubbling fires of Pele.

關於作者

James Richard (Rick) Ludwig, Ph.D. spent forty years in the academic, health care, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical disciplines. Rick also maintained a writer’s journal since his junior year in high school and populated it with short stories, poetry, and essays throughout his life.

Although a published author of multiple scientific papers and textbook chapters between 1975 and 2008, writing for a popular audience presented a unique challenge. Rick spent the first year of his retirement, converting all his writings, including his original writer’s journal (1967-2008), to digital format. Since then, he has written full-time and completed multiple manuscripts. Soul of a Sleuth is the third novel in his Maui Mystery Series published by Babylon Books. The first was Eyes of the Beholder (2022). The second, Voice of the Victim, was published in 2023. Rick is currently working on the second volume of his autobiography, which he is writing for his wife and children.

Rick participated in the 2009 Hawai`i Writers Conference in Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, served as Volunteer Coordinator for the 2013 Aloha Writers Conference in Kapalua, Maui, and attended best-selling author William Martin’s Retreat workshop during that conference. Rick participated in best-selling author William Bernhardt’s Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and advanced writers’ workshops between 2010 and 2016. Since 2015, Rick has presented seminars as part of the Rose State Writers Workshop (2015), the Red Sneaker Writers Workshop (2018), and the WriterCon Conferences (2020 and 2022), all held in Oklahoma City, OK.

Rick is married with two grown children, Jonathan and Jennifer. He divides his time between Maui, Hawai`i and Southern California with his wife of forty-three years, Christy, with whom he is learning to relax and enjoy the game of golf.
