The story begins with the launching of the U.S.S. EnterpriseTM NCC-1701-B and the mysterious disappearance of Captain James T. Kirk. Then, seventy-eight years later, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D receives a distress call from a remote scientific observatory.

J.M. Dillard grew up coddled in the wilds of central Florida. After leaving her mother’s sheltering arms, she left Florida to reside in various locales, including Washington, DC, Vermont, and southern California. She herself now coddles a two-hundred-pound husband and two ninety-pound Labradors, all of whom are well-trained but persist in believing themselves to be lapdogs. She is the author of a plethora of Star Trek® books; as Jeanne Kalogridis (her evil alter-ego), she is the author of the acclaimed Diaries of the Family Dracul trilogy, and the historical fantasy The Burning Times.

John de Lancie brought Q to life in the very first episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation and has since appeared as Q in numerous episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager®. In addition, he has starred on such series as Legend and Days of our Lives. He has also collaborated with author Peter David on Q's recent "autobiography", I, Q.
