It's too bad that Nancy Farmer is really too old to write anymore. I feel like I could read stories she's written forever. I feel that she's ended this well and as usual, with a master story teller's hand. She truly did know life in her story works and how to live in them. Her stories have awakened something in me that I pray will never die. I was surprised that Thorgil/Jill became a bard in the end. I thought she might become a wise woman, prophet, or seer with her fierceness and understanding she achieved by the end. It was still a good place for her and I approve of this ending. Well done, Nancy.

Nancy Farmer has written three Newbery Honor books: The Ear, the Eye and the Arm; A Girl Named Disaster; and The House of the Scorpion, which also won the National Book Award and the Printz Honor. Other books include The Lord of Opium, The Sea of Trolls, The Land of the Silver Apples, The Islands of the Blessed, Do You Know Me, The Warm Place, and three picture books for young children. She grew up on the Arizona-Mexico border and now lives with her family in the Chiricahua Mountains of Arizona.
Gerard Doyle has appeared in London's West End in The Hired Man and in Shakespeare's Coriolanus and The Winter's Tale, and has toured nationally and internationally with the English Shakespeare Company. He has appeared on Broadway in The Weir and on television in New York Undercover and Law and Order. Mr. Doyle is also an award-winning audiobook narrator.
