After attending a party at the Van Tassels' one fall night, Crane learns of the legend of the mysterious and spectral Headless Horseman, who rides by night and terrorizes those who dare to travel Tarrytown by night. Traveling home after the party that night, the superstitious (and romantically crestfallen) Crane spies a fellow rider in the woods. A rider...without a head!
