He was a tall, imposing man with a weathered face and a steely gaze that seemed to pierce through the darkness. But tonight, even his resolve was shaken. Something was different. The air felt thicker, charged with an energy that made his skin crawl.
As he made his way down Main Street, the shadows seemed to dance and twist around him, whispering secrets that chilled him to the bone. The streetlamps flickered, their light faltering as if being smothered by an unseen force. Jake tightened his grip on his lantern, its flame wavering precariously.
"Who's there?" he called out, his voice echoing in the empty street. Only silence answered him, a silence so profound it seemed to swallow his words.
Then, a figure materialized from the mist. It was a woman, dressed in a long, flowing gown that billowed in the wind. Her hair was dark as midnight, and her eyes shone like twin stars in the darkness.
