The moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the abandoned mansion that stood at the edge of town. The once grand building now lay in ruins, its windows shattered and its walls crumbling with age. The locals whispered tales of a mutant that had been trapped in a hidden trap door within the mansion for over a century, waiting for unsuspecting souls to stumble upon its lair.
It was the summer of 1980, and a group of teenage ghost hunters had gathered outside the mansion, eager to test the urban legend that had been passed down through the generations. They stood in a circle, their faces filled with a mixture of excitement and fear as they prepared to enter the forbidden building.
"Are you sure about this, Mike?" whispered Jenny, a slender girl with dark hair and piercing blue eyes.
Mike, the ringleader of the group, flashed a cocky grin and pushed open the front door of the mansion. "Of course I'm sure. This is going to be the thrill of a lifetime," he said, his voice filled with bravado.
The group followed Mike into the mansion, their footsteps echoing through the empty halls. The air was thick with dust and decay, and a chill ran down their spines as they ventured deeper into the darkness.
They came to a set of stairs that led down into the basement, where the trap door was said to be located. The group huddled together, their hearts pounding in their chests as they approached the door.
"Who's going to be the brave one to stand on the trap door?" Mike asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
James, a tall and athletic boy with sandy blond hair, stepped forward. "I'll do it," he said, his voice steady with determination.
He stood on the trap door, the wood creaking beneath his weight. A tense silence descended over the group as they waited for something, anything, to happen.
