On the plus side the magic system is original. On the negative side... is everything else. The characters and world are one-dimensional and don't evolve at all throughout making them highly predictable. The romantic subplot is sappy and cringe worthy. There's also an inexplicable amount of words dedicated to describing paperwork, and every other conversation leads to the main character having indigestion. Get the man some Tums already.
