About this audiobook

A remarkable audio edition of C.S. Lewis' beloved classic—the only existing recording of Lewis reading his own work.

C.S. Lewis—the great British writer, scholar, theologian, broadcaster, Christian apologist, and bestselling author of Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Great Divorce, The Chronicles of Narnia, and many other beloved classics—explores the essence of love and how it works in our daily lives in one of his most famous works of nonfiction based on his series of radio talks from 1958.

With penetrating logic and charming wit, Lewis explores the four aspects of love: affection, the most basic form; friendship, the rarest and perhaps most insightful; Eros, passionate love; and charity, the greatest and least selfish.

Lewis exposes the pitfalls in our loves, leading us to the agape love that God has for humankind and the type of love we must develop to nurture our relationships. Throughout this compassionate and methodical study, he encourages readers to open themselves to all forms of love—the key to understanding that brings us closer to God.

The Four Loves is where I became aware that not every time in the Bible the word "love" is written in English did not necessarily mean what we all consider "love" is what is referred to . The Four Loves; Storge, Philia, Eros, & Agape (all Greek translations of the word "love") are taught in this book by Lewis. The chapter on Agape is so powerful, poetic and exceptionally beautiful. Agape, the love between our Creator and ourselves is well written and majestic, it is something that every time I read it or hear the words spoken I cannot help but cry tears of joy. I use quotes from the chapter on Agape often to explain to other people the love God has for all of us. Also, I, honestly, believe with all my heart, that it is a small book that should very much should be offered to the younger generations before starting their years of dating and going through the process of finding their life-mates and getting married. Everyone should know clearly that the idea of marriage is not just the couple of man & wife or partner & partner. Marriage is a small picture of the tri-head of representation of the Trinity. Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Between partner & partner, Christ should be between them; forming the small picture of the Trinity. Wondrous book; incredible teaching on the subject of the differences in all four loves.

About the author

Clive Staples Lewis was born in 1898. Known as "Jack" by his friends, Lewis and his good friend J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, were part of a writer's club, The Inklings, who would meet at the local pub to discuss story ideas. Lewis's fascination with fairytales, myths, and ancient legends coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood led him to write The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, one of the best-loved books of all time. Six further books in the immensely popular Chronicles of Narnia followed, and the final title, The Last Battle, received the Carnegie Award, one of the highest marks of excellence in children's literature.
