About this audiobook

When a woman’s near-death experience results in her meeting Jesus, it contradicts her beliefs about God, the afterlife, and life on Earth. The encounter changes her forever and brings with it an unexpected surprise.

‘This must be it then. This is how I die.’ Maria tries to outrun the tree hurtling towards her, but the rough terrain makes it impossible to escape. On 24 November 2017, Maria dies in a horrific accident while working with her husband on their farm in Queensland, Australia.

A devout Christian all her life, 58-year old Maria expects to meet Jesus as she dies, but her ongoing encounters with him do not match anything she has read or heard. Over the following few weeks, Maria defies every medical prediction as the near-death experience forever change her, her family, friends, and those who hear the story.

In this moving and inspirational testimony, Maria shares how God’s love and joy overwhelmed her, healed her past and brought new freedom in her relationship with him and others.

If you would like to understand more of the afterlife, spiritual dimensions, what is available to you right now and how it impacts your life on Earth, this book is for you.

Closer than breath is an experience, not only for the author, but also for the reader, for me. I walked the journey through her accident and also her life, but the most important journey was my inner revolution, a transformation of my understanding. I have been on a path where I was seeking more, because I knew that what I learned and knew from years in church couldn’t be all. There must be more, more than our powerless religion. I was looking for something more special, something real, and someone close and personal. Closer than breath confirmed my inner thirst was true, but more than that, it left me in awe, confirming that it really is true and that it really is for me too. If you're looking for more, take the journey.

I never thought I would experience so many emotions from a single book! I felt overwhelming awe at our one-ness with Jesus and the incredible meaning of life and joy that sprung from this awareness. As I read about the prayer chests and how prayers shape, simply thinking of someone or something has taken on a new meaning and being part of someone’s life has become a privilege. I love how this story encapsulates how God can turn anything around for the better, no matter the circumstances.
