About this audiobook

Try is an irresistibly big-hearted audiobook about a friendship between two young boys, inspired by the real-life affection between rugby legends, fundraising heroes and best friends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield.

Meet Rob and Kev. They play games together, laugh together and go to school together. They have lots of other friends. But Rob always has Kev. And Kev always has Rob.

When their teacher, Ms Phelps, asks the class to think of their hero, Kev knows exactly who to pick: the fast, brave and strong captain of the Roaring Bears rugby team! Rob, however, feels unsure. Do heroes really have to be big and strong? Before long, Rob and Kev start to realise that perhaps being a hero isn't all about strength and muscles – it's much, much more than that . . .

Celebrating affectionate and caring friendships, this is an engaging and entertaining story that shows young listeners, especially young boys, the power of friendships based in love, trust and vulnerability – and that there are many ways to be strong.

About the author

Rob Burrow MBE played Rugby League for nearly 20 years for Leeds Rhinos, England and Great Britain winning every possible honour in the sport. From the earliest part of his career, Rob always defied the odds as the shortest player in a sport full of giants and instantly became everyone’s favourite player when he danced rings around huge defenders to score spectacular tries. In December 2019, Rob was diagnosed with motor neurone disease (MND) and applied the same determined attitude to his fight against MND and for those impacted by the disease. Rob died in June 2024.

Kevin Sinfield OBE is one of the most successful Rugby League players of all time for club and country, playing over 500 games in his career and winning every trophy available to him. One of the youngest-ever captains in the history of Leeds Rhinos when he was first appointed, his name is a short cut for leadership and inspiration to all who know him. After his playing career, he has gone on to enjoy a successful coaching career in Rugby Union with Leicester and now England but it his epic fundraising challenges for the MND community that have gained him national recognition, raising nearly £10 million in three years, inspired by his great friend Rob Burrow.
