Soap opera star Samantha Rathbone leaves California for Haywood, Arizona to escape her husband’s murder and her downfall. I love the setup with her being a former soap star. As a fan of soaps, when Sam thinks back to the soap and her role, it rings true. The narration was fine. It just took a few chapters for me to get used to Sam’s voice since it wasn’t what I imagined when I read the book. It was easy to listen to and I enjoyed it. I listened to the audible version and really enjoyed the narrator. Samantha is hiding her true identity and starting over in a small town. She takes a job at a local herb shop. When a murder occurs there, she becomes the main suspect. The story moves quickly and there are several quirky characters. This was my first Carly Winter's book. This is the first book in the Heywood Herbalist Cozy Mysteries Series. I liked to follow Samantha's sleuthing in this small town murder mystery. The plot is well crafted, interesting, and intriguing. Nicole Scott did a great job bringing this story to life.
