Bring history back to life through Jim Hodges’ historically accurate, exciting and edifying audio recordings.
Dwight Lyman Moody was one of the most famous Evangelists of the 19th century, giving thousands of sermons in hundreds of cities throughout the United States and England. He and his song leader, Ira Sankey, preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the highest and lowest members of society, using everyday examples and a common-man approach that enthralled them all. His sermons are clear and compelling, dispelling the common arguments against accepting God’s offer of salvation with forceful but simple arguments. These sermons were written exactly as Mr. Moody spoke them, and recorded by Jim Hodges.
Take a theological journey through a sampling of some of the world’s best sermons, stories, and tales with the Overtly Christian Line.
Dwight Lyman Moody (1837–1899), American evangelist, was born in New England, the child of a large working-class family. A religious conversion as an adult led him to found a ministry in Chicago, to work as a battlefield missionary during the Civil War, and eventually to lead massive evangelical crusades during the 1870s and 1880s in both England and the United States. He founded Christian schools and a Christian publishing house, which published his many nondenominational evangelical tracts.
Jim Hodges began reading aloud in the second grade with a stirring rendition of Dick and Jane. He continued to volunteer to speak throughout his schooling years, performed as a newscaster while in the Navy, and participated in community theater groups. His wife, Monica, once asked what his dream job would be. He answered, “I’d record books.” And so began Jim Hodges Audio Books, producing unabridged recordings of the G. A. Henty historical novels, children’s books, Overtly Christian titles, and classic literature.
