相传古时候，在古印度和中国之间的海岛上，有一个萨桑王国，国王名叫山努亚。山努亚国王每天要娶一个女子来，在王宫过夜，但每到第二天雄鸡高唱的时候，便残酷地杀掉这个女子。

宰相有两个女儿，长女叫桑鲁卓，二女儿名叫多亚德。桑鲁卓知书达礼，仪容高贵，读过许多历史书籍，有丰富的民族历史知识。她收藏有上千册的文学、历史书籍。见到宰相忧郁地回到家中，桑鲁卓便对他说：
